About Acupuncture

Acupuncture brings a broad range of  benefits to physical and mental-emotional health through the insertion of hair-thin, flexible, single-use needles into strategic locations on the body.

The insertion is virtually painless, occasionally eliciting a pinching sensation, but often goes unnoticed. I am often asked with surprise, “Is the needle already in!?” Occasionally there is a bit of bleeding, but it is generally less than a drop.

The experience after insertion is generally described as deeply relaxing, dreamy, or “in the zone”.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Improved Blood Circulation

  • Your blood is like a highway of healing. It delivers oxygen, nutrients, and white blood cells for immunity and tissue regeneration. But if your blood flow is blocked or sluggish, your body will be deprived of this powerful healing potential.

  • Acupuncture opens and frees blood flow and micro-circulation, allowing your essential tissues, organs, and glands to receive the healing and nourishment they need to regenerate and function at optimal levels.

A Calm + Balanced Body

  • Acupuncture modulates the neuro-endocrine system, calming and balancing nerves and hormones.  This promotes positive changes in many areas including chronic pain, hormonal imbalances, sleep disturbances, fertility issues, autoimmune and inflammatory disorders.

  • By stimulating the release of mood-regulating and “feel good” neurotransmitters, it can help to relieve stress, anxiety, and depression.

  • A well regulated neuro-endocrine system goes a long way to improve healing, relief of pain, and overall well-being.

Promotes Healing of Tissues

  • Disease or injury means damaged tissues.

  • Merely addressing symptoms, or dulling pain perception, is not enough to repair the damage.

  • Acupuncture stimulates your body’s natural healing abilities, to restore and repair your tissues and cells back to normal, the way they were before the damage.

  • With the combined effects of reduced inflammation, release of feel-good endorphins and neurotransmitters, and improved blood flow to help it all get there, you are set up to feel good, relieve pain, and set the stage for continued healing.

Reduce Pain + Inflammation

  • Swollen, inflamed nerves feel bad; relaxed, de-flamed nerves feel good.

  • Acupuncture is shown to regulate nerve signals and reduce inflammation for pain relief. It also releases your body’s beta-endorphins, stronger than morphine, non-addictive, and completely natural.

  • With the combined effects of reduced inflammation, release of feel-good endorphins and neurotransmitters, and improved blood flow to help it all get there, you are set up to feel good, relieve pain, and set the stage for continued healing.

What if I’m afraid of needles?!

  • I hear this a lot, but it might not be what you are imagining…

  • I’ve had plenty of patients who said they hated needles, but discovered they love acupuncture!

  • The feeling of acupuncture is very different from the feeling of getting a shot.

  • Acupuncture needles are very thin and flexible, allowing them to slide in between the tissues without unnecessary damage.

  • In comparison, the needles used for shots are 3-10 times thicker than acupuncture needles, are inflexible and hollow, causing much more trauma to the skin and underlying tissues.  They also inject medicine, causing a distended feeling in the muscle. They do their job well,, but no one would tolerate an acupuncture session with that kind of needle!

  • So if you are not sure it’s for you, come by and try just one to see how it goes. You might be surprised.

  • If it's still not for you, don’t worry, we can help you without a single needle.

Do any of the following sound like you?

  • Whether you have a minor, nagging complaint, or a more complex, chronic issue, you would prefer to support your body’s innate healing mechanisms naturally, and free of side-effects.

  • You’ve presented your situation to your health practitioner, but it doesn’t add up, or you are not “sick enough” to get a clear diagnosis. But you know something is off, and you want to feel better before it gets worse.

  • Perhaps you have been told very clearly what is wrong, but you don’t seem to see much improvement. Or you are told there are improvements, but you’re not feeling any better.

  • Maybe you’ve heard that you are “fine”, or that you’re being too “sensitive”. But you sure don’t feel like it.

You know it’s not just in your mind. Something isn’t going right, and you want to be supported.
